Former O-lineman McNeill honored by Sporting News
Former Auburn offensive lineman Marcus McNeill has been named to the Sporting News’ All-Decade team for college football, the magazine announced Thursday. The magazine, which is now available at newsstands, features a 14-page tribute to the athletes, coaches and teams of the decade.
McNeill was a two-time All-American for the Tigers and the first AU player since Ed King (1989-90) to be All-American in back-to-back years.
McNeill was a coaches and Associated Press All-SEC First-Team member as both a junior and senior, and received the Jacobs Trophy as the SEC’s top blocker following his senior campaign, when he was also one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy. McNeill is one of just six players from SEC schools who was named to the 26-man squad, joining Arkansas’ Darren McFadden and Shawn Andrews, Georgia’s David Pollack,
Tennessee’s John Henderson and Florida’s Lito Sheppard.
