Trey Hammock threw six innings of no-hit baseball, while Chandler Guy came on in relief to throw one Tuesday night.
The result was a 3-2, bottom-of-the-seventh Beauregard win over G.W. Long in a tournament at Russell County, where Guy earned the victory.
Cory Thompson, who went 2-for-4 on the night, got the game-winning hit in the bottom of the final inning, scoring Guy, who reached on a single.
Will Walker and Taylor Ragsdale also added hits for the Hornets (5-0) in the win.
Beauregard will play Dothan today at Russell County.
AHS baseball takes out Tallassee
TALLASSEE — Grant Massey earned the win for Auburn High, beating Tallassee, 9-0, in the Field of Dreams Tournament. Trey Gregg and
Patrick Carroll threw in relief for the Tigers, each of them striking out four.
At the plate, Dalton Edwards was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI, while Todd Thompson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Tanner Cimo was 3-for-5 and Carroll was 3-for-3 with two RBI for the undefeated Tigers (6-0).
Auburn will play Opelika at 6:30 tonight in the last game of the Tallassee tournament.
Opelika baseball falls to Benjamin Russell
TALLASSEE — The Opelika baseball team committed six errors and only scratched out four hits in its 10-3 loss to Benjamin Russell in the Tallassee Field of Dreams Tournament.
Tyler Peppers had a two-RBI double for the Bulldogs (1-3), while Blake Smith had a double and a run scored. Ethan Brown also added a double in the loss.
Beulah baseball holds off Reeltown
REELTOWN — Beulah pitcher David Strickland picked up his second win of the season, beating Reeltown, 6-2, striking out five and giving up two hits in seven innings.
Josh Walker led the Bobcats (3-1) at the plate with two hits. Beulah hosts Clay County in a doubleheader Saturday.
AHS softball eases past Valley
The Auburn High softball team made short work of Valley, 16-2, Tuesday night.
Caitlin Bates earned the win for the Tigers on the mound. At the plate, Lauren Deaton lead the way for Auburn, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Auburn Junior High also beat Valley, 18-3, with Lea Hix earning the win.
The Tigers’ next game is Thursday against Central.
Opelika softball shuts out Beulah
Rebecca Lindsey struck out nine and gave up just two hits to lead the Opelika softball team past Beulah, 10-0.
Hillary White was 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Kimmy Gillock was 1-for-2 with two RBI in the win.
The OHS JV team also won, 12-1. Kelsey Pelham earned the win for the Bulldogs in that game.
LSA softball splits doubleheader
The Lee-Scott softball team opened it season splitting a doubleheader against Edgewood. The Warriors lost Game 1, 7-6, but rallied to win Game 2, 5-4.
In the first game, Abby Tapley was 1-for-4 with three RBI, while Katie Poole was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
In Game 2, Tapley earned the win on the mound, while Hannah Beth Baker was 2-for-3 and Rachel Barefield was 2-for-2.
LSA’s next game is Thursday against Chambers in the Springwood tournament.
LSA soccer opens season with win
Brock Hudson scored a hat trick to lead the Lee-Scott soccer team to a 4-1 win over Springwood in both teams’ season openers.
Hudson scored two goals in the first half, on assists form Chris Garner and Johnny Choi, respectively. He added his third in the second half off an assist from Garner. Michael Jensen scored the Warriors’ first goal of the game with the assist coming from Choi.
Wesley Willis scored Springwood’s only goal on a direct kick.
AHS boys tennis blanks St. James
The Auburn High boys tennis team took out St. James, 9-0.
Winning for the Tigers in singles were: Nick Iannuzzi, Kevin Xu, Alex Beale, Nathan Smith, Marc DeLorenzo and Carl Fox. Doubles winners were: Iannuzzi and Xu, Joe Lessley and Justin Yeh and Adam Dorn and Max Birdsong.
Sanford softball wins big
The Sanford Middle School softball team beat Russell County, 18-1, in its season opener.
Raina Lanier earned the win, striking out 8 and giving up three hits. Kyle Carter and Caitlin DuBose were both 3-for-5 at the plate, while Reid Campbell, Corie Ballard and Lanier were 2-for-5.
Sanford’s next game is next Tuesday against Auburn.
