AREA ROUNDUP: Beauregard baseball stays undefeated

SEALE — The Beauregard baseball team improved to 6-0 on the season with an 8-5 win over Dothan on Wednesday in a tournament at Russell County High School.

Chad Kelly earned the win on the mound, while Kyle Brown and Will Walker led the way at the plate for the Hornets.

Brown was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, while Walker was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Beauregard will play the tournament’s host team Russell County today.

AHS boys soccer picks up win
With 5 minutes left to go in a tied game against 7th-ranked Columbus (Ga.), Auburn High’s Jack Goldberg was fouled hard just outside the Columbus penalty area.

Moments later, fellow sophomore Harrison Won drilled home a free kick to give the Tigers a much-needed 2-1 victory, improving their overall record to 2-2 for the season.

Goldberg got the Tigers on the scoreboard at the 15th minute with a penalty kick, after a Columbus handball in their own penalty area.

Auburn begins section play Friday at 5 p.m. at Lee-Montgomery.

Smiths Station JV soccer blanks Opelika
Raymond Reid scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out to give the Smiths Station JV boys soccer team a 1-0 win over Opelika.

Trey Williams earned the shutout in goal for the Panthers (3-2).

Beauregard softball opens with win
The Beauregard softball team beat Russell County, 9-5, on Tuesday in the Hornets’ season opener.

Robin Dunaway threw a complete game for the win, giving up eight hits and three earned runs. She also struck out five and walked one.

Amy Goodson was 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI. Chelsea Messer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Peyton DeLong was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.

Beauregard’s JV team also won, 9-5. Chloe Swatts earned the win, striking up four. Bailey Allen was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, Bre Cobb was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBI, while Trish Rosario was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Hannah Strickland
also scored two runs and had two stolen bases.

OMS soccer beats Auburn
The Opelika Middle School soccer team improved its record to 2-0-1 on Tuesday night with a 5-3 win over Auburn Junior High/Drake.

Khalil Bell and Adrein Parker each scored two goals on the night for Opelika, while Betts Waller also scored. Jorge Herrera added an assist.

Onur Kucuktas, Steve Lueck and Taylor Holt all scored for Auburn.

OMS will host South Girard today at the Opelika SportsPlex, while Auburn Junior High/Drake will host Helena at Duck Samford Park.
