CLEMSON, S.C. — The Auburn men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded competition at the Clemson Games on Saturday with a light second day of action that paled in comparison to Friday night’s action.
The Tigers had one more NCAA provisional qualifying mark on Saturday, with a second-place finish in the women’s 4x400-meter relay. That mark gave Auburn seven automatic or provisional qualifiers in the two-day event, along with six individual event winners.
“I feel good about how we lined up and performed this weekend,” said head coach Ralph Spry. “We had some fast times and good marks in the field events both days. We’re getting better each weekend, and next week we go to one of the best facilities in the nation in Penn State, so hopefully we can continue to improve.”
The women’s relay team of sophomore CeCe Williams and juniors Cache Armbrister, Latoya Parkinson and Joanna Atkins finished with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:40.82, finishing second behind Clemson by just .04 seconds. Their mark ranks them eighth in school indoor history.
The Tigers’ other second-place finish on Saturday came from junior Gerard Brown in the men’s triple jump. Brown had a leap of 14.25 meters (46-9) to finish as the runner-up.
Auburn had a pair of third-place finishes Saturday, including Jager Livingston in the men’s heptathlon. Livingston had a personal-best total of 4,850 points in the two-day multi-event competition, capping his performance with a time of 2:47.42 in the 1,000 meters that led the field.
Auburn’s other third-place finish came from the men’s 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Nick Green, junior Michael DeHaven, sophomore Harry Adams and sophomore Marcus Rowland, who clocked a time of 3:19.44.
Other top-five finishers for Auburn on Saturday included Williams in the women’s 200 meters (24.82), junior Allison Smith in the women’s 3,000 meters (10:32.41) and junior Erica Akins in the women’s triple jump (11.18 meters, 36-8.25).
The Tigers will resume their indoor schedule next weekend when the squads travel to Penn State for the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup next weekend.
