ALEXANDER CITY — Both Opelika and Auburn High had strong showings in the Central Alabama Invitational over the weekend, with the Bulldogs winning three of four games and the Tigers going 2-2.
Opelika defeated Horseshoe Bend, 4-1, in its first game. Hillary White and Lara Teel each went 2-for-2 from the plate, and Kelsey Pelham got the win on the mound.
Auburn opened with a 3-2 win over Central-Coosa.
In the second games of the day, Opelika defeated Benjamin Russell, 5-4. Rebecca Lindsey got the win on the mound, and Kimmie Gillock, Tiesha Williams, Jasmine Sydnor and White all had hits.
The Tigers defeated Dadeville, 3-0.
Opelika and Auburn squared off in their third games, with Opelika taking a 12-7 win.
Lindsey, White, Williams and Maria Mitchell all went 2-for-3, and Sydnor went 2-for-2 with a home run for Opelika. Lindsey got the win on the mound.
In their fourth games, both teams were eliminated. Opelika by Benjamin Russell and Auburn, 9-1, by Alabama Christian.
For Auburn, Allie May got two wins on the mound, and Lauren Deaton, Treslyn Reese and Jamie Shirley all had home runs.
For Opelika, White was 6-for-9 on the tournament, Sydnor was 3-for-6 and Teel was 2-for-2.
Both teams will compete in the Auburn Spring Tournament next weekend.
OHS JV falls to Smiths Station in final
Smiths Station took a 13-3 win over Opelika in the final of the Opelika JV tournament.
Doss Arnold and Taylor Grigsby each drove in a run for Opelika, and Duncan Asbury, Jered Harper, Kyle Gothard and Sawyer Stephens all had hits.
Opelika will next play Friday at home against Brewbaker Tech.
