WETUMPKA — The Glenwood baseball team exacted some revenge on its rival Lee-Scott, beating the Warriors, 9-2, on Friday night in a tournament at Edgewood Academy.
Lee-Scott beat Glenwood earlier this week, 10-4.
On Friday, sophomore Matthew Kuhlenberg picked up his first win in his first varsity start for the Gators.
Skyler Murphy led Glenwood (8-1) at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI, a double and a home run. Kyle Switzer was 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases, Spencer Riley was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs, while Chase Silvani was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Micah Pointer had the only two hits for Lee-Scott, both of them doubles.
Beauregard baseball sweeps Enterprise
ENTERPRISE — Beauregard didn’t give up a single run in two games, sweeping Enterprise, 3-0 and 11-0 in a doubleheader Friday.
In the first game, Hornets pitcher Trey Hammock had a perfect game through six innings, but lost it by giving up a hit in the seventh. Hammock finished with 12 strikeouts and just two walks.
Kyle Brown was 2-for-2 at the plate with a three-run home run, while Cory Thompson, Nathan Edwards, Taylor Ragsdale and Zane Rivers had one hit each.
In Game 2, Brown picked up the win, going four innings and striking out seven. Brown also excelled at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Will Walker was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Rivers was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Beauregard (13-4) opens up the Lake Martin Tournament vs. Cleburne County on Monday.
Opelika soccer blanks Wetumpka
WETUMPKA — The Opelika soccer team shut out Wetumpka, 6-0, to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Brian Likins earned the shutout for the Bulldogs, while Vixay Mouangchan led them with two goals. Joshua Heard, Zack Chanthongthio, Clayton Humphries and John Jeong all added goals.
Opelika plays Central on Monday.
The Opelika JV team also won, 4-2, with Tevin Stinson scoring twice and Cole McCarty and Isai Zera scoring once. Cody Martin added an assist for the Bulldogs (4-4-1) in the win.
The JV hosts Trinity on Tuesday.
Opelika baseball time change
The Opelika baseball team has changed the times of its games against Valley and Enterprise today.
The Bulldogs take on Enterprise at 2, with Valley vs. Enterprise and Opelika vs. Valley to follow, all at Opelika.
AHS tennis sweeps Smiths Station
Auburn’s boys and girls tennis teams took 9-0 sweeps over Smiths Station on Thursday.
Nick Iannuzzi, Kevin Xu, Alex Beale, Nathan Smith, Mark Delorenzo and Max Birdsong all picked up singles wins for the Tigers’ boys (7-0), while the doubles teams of Iannuzzi/Xu, Joe Lessley/Drew Hays and Adam Dorn/Justin Yeh also won.
Maggie Jerome, Katy Smith, Haley Dorn, Sarah Stevenson, Rosemary Shelton and Christine Song won in singles for the girls (5-1), as did the doubles teams of Jerome/Smith, Corey Robertson/Mikey Robinson and Shelton/Maggie Touchton.
Both teams return to action March 23 at Opelika.
