ALEX CITY — Nathan Edwards started the day for Beauregard by throwing a no-hitter. Then, a host of of Hornets’ hitters ended Tuesday at the Lake Martin Classic with red-hot bats.
In between, Beauregard beat Dadeville, 11-1, on the strength of Edwards’ no-hitter, then knocked off Chelsea, 13-6, in the nightcap.
In the first game, Chandler Guy was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Cory Thompson was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Will Walker was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Vane Rivers was 1-for-1 with three RBI and two sacrifices and Taylor Ragsdale was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Against Chelsea, Kyle Brown earned the win, going the distance, striking out nine.
Edwards was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Guy was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, Thompson was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Walker was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, Chad Kelly was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Ragsdale was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Beauregard (16-4) will play Opelika today.
Tallassee splits at Lake Martin Classic
ALEX CITY — Tallassee lost its first game Tuesday in the Lake Martin Classic, 10-5, to Briarwood Christian. But the Tigers responded in
their second game, mercy-ruling Central Coosa, 14-4, in six innings.
Briarwood had a 5-4 lead heading into the top of the seventh over Tallassee when Logan Crook hit a grand slam and Dave Roberts followed with a solo shot to make it 10-4. The Tigers scored one in the bottom of the final inning, but it wasn’t enough.
Trey Cochran-Gill was 3-for-4 at the plate for Tallassee with an RBI double. Michael Tinney was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Caleb Parker was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Against Central Coosa, Todd Burton earned the win for the Tigers, going all six innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven.
Tinney and Morgan Faulkner had three RBI apiece for Tallassee, while Darius Williams had a two-run home run. John Woodall and
Parker also added two RBI each.
Tallassee (10-5) will play Smiths Station and Gadsden City today.
